What Does TICA Registration Mean?
TICA stands for The International Cat Association. When you are looking for a pedigreed kitten, TICA registration refers to a record maintained by the association. A pedigree documents recorded ancestry. These records help explain a kitten’s identity and background, but they serve a different purpose from veterinary records.

Registration and a pedigree are different
An individual registration identifies a cat in the registry. A pedigree shows its recorded family tree across generations. Ordering a pedigree and updating ownership may be separate steps from the kitten’s initial registration.
TICA provides different registration routes depending on the documents supplied, including a breeder slip or an individual registration form. Use the instructions appropriate to your kitten’s existing records instead of starting a second registration unnecessarily. TICA registration instructions
Think of the documents as answering different questions: Which cat is registered? Who is recorded as its owner? What ancestry is recorded? Ask the breeder to explain each document you receive.
Cattery registration is another separate record
Registering a cattery name is not the same as registering each kitten. A breeder’s membership, a cattery name, a litter record, and an individual cat’s registration should not be treated as interchangeable.
If a listing says “TICA registered,” ask what has been registered and request the kitten-specific paperwork. TICA also registers household pets, so the phrase alone does not tell you everything about breed or ancestry. TICA membership and cattery information
What registration does not establish
TICA registration is not a veterinary health certificate, genetic test result, or guarantee that a kitten will never develop a medical condition. It also does not automatically grant breeding rights.

This is why a thoughtful purchase involves both paperwork and a conversation about the kitten’s care, parents, personality, and home environment.
What to expect from TMZ
Our Sales Terms explain that kittens will already be registered and that buyers receive instructions to order their pedigree. The Sales and Health Agreement describes those instructions being emailed after full payment has been received and cleared.
Before pickup, ask:
What is my kitten’s registered name and registration number?
Which documents will I receive, and when?
Is an ownership transfer needed, and who completes it?
Is the pedigree ordered separately, and are there additional fees?
Does my agreement include breeding rights or a pet-only placement?
Keep the answers with your purchase agreement. If anything is unclear, resolve it before you need the paperwork for a later transaction or event.
Choose with a complete picture
Pedigree records are useful, but they are one part of choosing your companion. You should also feel comfortable discussing veterinary care, health screening, the reservation process, and the kitten’s needs.
